Assurance Home hosts successful fund-raising dinner
Roswell Daily Record

The sound of Mary Hale’s flute only added to the elegant mood as contributors to the Assurance Home enjoyed dinner and paintings from four artists at the home’s annual fund-raiser Sunday.

The fund-raiser is held every 18 months and is catered by Peas and Pods of Santa Fe. “They supply the food for the $100 a plate dinner,” said Ron Malone, executive director of the home. “They are very elegant and very tasteful. I mean it is just a wonderful event for us.”

The dinner tickets sold quickly thanks to many organizations and individuals throughout the community, including several banks and Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, Malone said.During the fund-raiser, those in attendance were able to admire the work of local artist Dorothy Peterson, Kim Wiggins, John Kiker and Colombian artist Jesus Hernando Zuiterrez Ibanez. Their art work was displayed on the lawn of the home.“(The art) just adds enjoyment to our activities we are having,” Malone said. “The whole event is nice, the dinner is nice, the art is nice, but the reason we are really here is for the kids.” “We want the (kids) to have as much of a home life as possible.

The local community is very supportive of the Assurance Home. It is not only a fund-raiser, but it is also a thank you from us too,” Sheila Crossley, board member, added.

Through the generosity of the community, the home was able to exceed their goal of $15,000.This fund-raiser is especially special this year because it falls near the home’s 25th anniversary, Malone said. “We have made it 25 years through the kindness and generosity of this caring community and we are just very thankful,” he said.

Throughout the years, the home has helped more than 1,000 at-risk teens. Currently, seven boys and five girls live at the home.
