The Easter bunny ensured that no child in Roswell was left out from the fun, candy and goodies when he paid a special visit to Roswell's Assurance Home on Easter Sunday.
Ron Malone, director at the Assurance Home, said that although it is the Altrusa Club of Roswell that makes Easter baskets and donates them to the home, it is the Easter bunny who delivers them to the teenagers in the home's care.
"It helps make Easter very special," Malone said of the baskets. "We try to give the kids happy childhood memories."
The Easter baskets included candy, plastic eggs with money and movie tickets.
"Little things like this make the kids feel special," Malone said with a smile.
There are 20 adolescents ages 14-18 at the Assurance Home, which provides a safe haven for homeless teens or teens at risk. Usually teens live at the Assurance for about three months to up to four years.
Malone explained the Altrusa Club has been donating Easter baskets to the Assurance Home for 23 years.
"The children in our care need to know the community thinks about them and loves them," Malone said. He said the home is a United Way agency and those who work there are appreciative of what the Altrusa Club and the entire community does for the teens.
Malone said there are many people out there who remember the children in his care.
"That's what makes the program so unique, the concern people express," Malone said.
