"Love cures people - both the ones who give it and the ones who receive it."
Dr. Karl Menninger

Children raised with violence are at high risk for developing behavioral and emotional difficulties that can last a lifetime. At a time when child abuse statistics continue to rise, we all have reason for concern. The mistreatment of children can lead to a wide variety of problems for victims and society.

Since 1979, Assurance Home has been involved with adolescent children who are at high risk because of abuse and neglect. Today, the majority of young people who have successfully completed the Assurance Home program are leading productive and happy lives. They are working in our communities, raising their own children, attending college and serving our country through military service.

Clinical Programs

When you believe in kids and when you love them, you will make sure they have all the opportunities they need to succeed. Assurance Home provides professional trained therapists who assist children with their difficulties. Therapeutic horsemanship programs, art therapy and experiential therapy through our on-site ropes course, are available to assist our youngsters in learning to feel better about themselves. We have two Masters Levels Therapists with various individual and group therapy programs, led by our Clinical Director, George Lewis, L.I.S.W.

Field Trips

Field trips help our children learn about and explore all the wonderful aspects of life. So much of their young lives have been consumed with negative and hurtful experiences that we feel it is important to try and "over-expose" them to positive experiences to help make up the deficits in their lives.

Community Involvement

The young people of Assurance Home are actively involved in the community through sports, working in the community, and attending public schools.

In Reach

Many people have heard the term "out-reach". Assurance Home has developed a program for self-sufficiency training called "IN-REACH".

For many years we have been aware of a need for intensive training of this nature for the young people living at Assurance Home. With this in mind, we took ideas and suggestions from leading programs around the nation and designed a program tailored specifically to meet the needs of our children.

While living in a comfortable environment and being supported by an encouraging staff, the young people in the IN-REACH program are exposed to hands-on participation in areas of self-sufficiency skills. These skills include academic and/or vocational achievement, job search and interviews, budgeting, cooking, shopping, driver's training, banking, time management, and others. Tasks such as ironing, household cleaning, and personal hygiene are important in learning self-reliance and are also included in the IN-REACH program.

IN-REACH offers older children the opportunity to believe in their own abilities and to reach within themselves to find the skills needed to be independent and successful.
